Even if you brush and floss your teeth regularly, it is important that you have your teeth professionally cleaned on a regular basis. If you aren't quite so careful about your oral hygiene, it's even more essential. After a thorough cleaning, your teeth will feel smooth and clean, and they will probably look a lot brighter too. But professional teeth cleanings aren't done for looks only, it is also done to remove the Plaque (tarter) from your teeth which is responsible for the gum disease.
Gum disease is best treated in its earliest stage, known as gingivitis. During this stage, your gums will become red, inflamed or swollen and may bleed with brushing. Usually, this inflammation can be attributed to the bacteria found in plaque, the sticky film that can form on the teeth. However, gum inflammation can be attributed to many other factors, including medical conditions, poor nutrition, smoking and even stress. Neglecting that will lead to a more advanced gum disease called periodontitis, which will loosen the teeth and you may lose your teeth. One of the main reason for losing the teeth is periodontal disease.
Regular check-up and cleaning by the dentist and Hygienist, you will prevent that from occurring and will keep your teeth and gum in good health.
